What are Dental Implants?
Dental implants are the permanent way to replace a single missing tooth or many missing teeth.
At Wolds Dental Studio in Market Rasen, we have treated hundreds of patients from Market Rasen, Gainsborough, Cherry Willingham, Welton, Sudbrooke, Fiskerton, Nettleham, Caistor, Keelby, Reepham, and throughout Lincolnshire with dental implants.
Whether you have a failing tooth due to decay or perhaps you have many gaps in your mouth, it can seriously affect your confidence. Dental implants permanently replace missing teeth or failing teeth so that you can smile again
Dental implants are usually made of titanium and consist of 3 components:
- The metal rod which is gently inserted into your jawbone and acts as your new replacement tooth root
- An abutment which attaches to the new tooth root and will connect to your new crown
- The crown which is the replacement tooth and can be seen in your mouth
If you have one missing tooth, you may opt for a single dental implant. If you have several missing teeth or no teeth at all, you may decide to opt for all-on-4 dental implants which is more cost effective and a less invasive way to replace many missing teeth.

What is the process for Dental Implants?
Free consultation and CBCT scan
At your free initial consultation, we will thoroughly examine your teeth and talk to you in detail about the process and benefits of dental implants.
At Wolds Dental Studio in Market Rasen we will use our CBCT (Cone Beam CT) scan to produce highly accurate visual images of your teeth and jaw. This detailed scan allows us to identify any possible issues with your mouth and will enable us to accurately place your dental implants during surgery.
Dental implant surgery
On the day of your dental implant surgery, you will arrive at the dental practice in Market Rasen. We will put you at ease and once you are ready, will give you a local anaesthetic which will numb the specific area in your mouth.
If you have a failing tooth or several teeth which need to be removed, these will gently be extracted.
The titanium metal rod will then be gently placed into your jawbone. Once this is secure, we will continue to fit the abutment.
Finally, you will be given a temporary crown which will fit to the abutment. A permanent crown will be custom-made and fitted at a later stage after the healing process.
The formal healing period for dental implants is between 2 and 6 months and this allows the dental implants to fuse with your jawbone. Your mouth and gums may be a bit sore for the few days after dental implant surgery, but this shouldn’t last long.
New restoration is fitted
Once your gums have healed sufficiently, we will invite you back to the dental practice in Market Rasen to have your restoration fitted. This might be a single crown or a bridge supporting a new set of teeth depending on whether you are having a single dental implant or dental implants to support many missing teeth.
Your dental implant process is complete, and you will now have a brand-new smile with stunning looking new teeth.
Maintenance for dental implants
It is vital that you keep up a good oral hygiene of brushing and flossing your teeth twice a day to keep your gums healthy and to prolong the life of your dental implants. You should also continue to visit your dentist and hygienist on a regular basis.

Frequently Asked Questions about Dental Implants
Are dental implants safe?
Yes, dental implant surgeries have been happening for over 50 years with an established pattern of success. It is always best to choose a qualified dental implantologist for your dental implant surgery.
What happens if I don’t get dental implants?
You are not committed to getting dental implants. There are other tooth replacement options such as wearing a denture. If you decide to do nothing at all, you may find that your problem tooth or gap causes you some discomfort and it may affect the health of your adjacent teeth.
How long will my dental implants last for?
Dental implants should last for about 25 years but with proper care and hygiene, there’s no reason why your dental implants shouldn’t last a lifetime. You can prolong the life of your dental implants with thorough brushing and flossing at least twice a day and with regular visits to your dentist and hygienist.
