Fixed Braces
What are fixed braces in Market Rasen, Lincolnshire?
Fixed braces are the traditional method of straightening teeth and correcting orthodontic problems.
At Wolds Dental Studio in Market Rasen, we use ceramic fixed braces rather than metal. Ceramic fixed braces are made up of a ceramic white bracket which is attached to the front of your tooth this is then connected with tooth-coloured wires making them extremely discreet.
Patients from Market Rasen, Gainsborough, Sudbrooke, Fiskerton, Reepham, Cherry Willingham, Nettleham, Welton, Caistor, Keelby and Lincolnshire are opting to get their teeth straightened with tooth-coloured fixed braces because these are the most precise form of orthodontic treatment. What is the process for getting fixed braces
At your consultation, we will examine your teeth and discuss what you’d like to change about your smile. We will then talk through how fixed braces work and whether they would be suitable for you. Feel free to ask us any questions or concerns that you may have.
If you decide to go ahead with treatment, we will then take electronic images of your teeth using our CBCT (Cone Beam CT) scan. This gives us a detailed picture of your teeth and we will use these images to make up your bespoke fixed braces.
When your fixed braces are ready, we will invite you back to Wolds Dental Studio in Market Rasen to fit your braces to your teeth.
The white ceramic brackets are gently applied to the front of your teeth using a special adhesive material. After this, the tooth-coloured wires are gently threaded through the brackets so that they are connected. The wires form the pressure on your teeth to move them gently into position. We may also attach small elastics to your fixed braces creating pressure at certain points in your mouth. This doesn’t hurt and is nothing to worry about.
The entire fitting usually takes between 1 and 2 hours depending upon your treatment.
Once your fixed braces have been fitted, it may feel strange at first. You may notice some pressure on your teeth, or your mouth may feel sore. Some patients may lisp a little at the beginning. This is all perfectly normal and will settle down in a day or two. You can take paracetamol if you are feeling uncomfortable.
You will need to visit the dental practice in Market Rasen on a regular basis to have the wires adjusted and tightened. This is to ensure that the pressure is maintained and that your teeth continue to move.

Frequently Asked Questions about Fixed Braces
How long will my fixed braces treatment take? How can I keep my teeth clean with fixed braces? Is there anything I should and shouldn’t do whilst wearing fixed braces?
This will depend upon the severity of your case. Every patient is completely different, so it is hard to answer this question without first seeing your teeth. As a guide, minor orthodontic cases may take 6 months of wearing fixed braces whereas more severe orthodontic cases can take between 12 and 18 months.
How can I keep my teeth clean with fixed braces?
It is important to keep your teeth clean and keep up a good dental hygiene process whilst wearing fixed braces because food can become trapped. This not only looks unsightly, but it has a bigger chance of creating tooth decay.
You should brush your teeth thoroughly at least twice a day. It’s a good idea to invest in an interdental toothbrush which has a smaller head and helps to reach the difficult places. Continue to visit the dental hygienist whilst you’re having your fixed braces treatment.
Is there anything I should and shouldn’t do whilst wearing fixed braces?
You should brush your teeth and visit the hygienist regularly whilst wearing your fixed braces. Remember to keep up your orthodontic appointments to keep your fixed braces tightened and checked.
You should not chew gum whilst wearing fixed braces and you should limit the amounts of fizzy drinks and sugar that you consume as this will make your teeth and mouth harder to clean. You may want to avoid biting into harder foods such as apples, carrots and crusty bread and instead cut up these foods.
