General Treatment
What are the general dentistry treatments available at Market Rasen, Lincolnshire?
Our most common general dentistry treatments in Market Rasen include:
Routine dental check-up
A routine dental examination is at the heart of everything we do. It gives us vital information about you and your teeth and will form the basis of your treatment plan.
A dental check-up will involve a detailed inspection of your mouth, teeth and gums. We will also use our CBCT (Cone Beam CT) scan to provide detailed pictures of your teeth, gums and jaw which can give us a better understanding of your oral health. All of this helps to quickly identify any potential issues such as cavities, gum disease, problems with your jaw or jawbone as well as allowing us to identify more serious problems such as oral cancer.
Restorative dental treatment
During your routine dental check-up, we may notice problems with your oral health that need to be addressed or fixed. Restorative treatments can include:
White fillings
If you have a cavity in your tooth, it will need to be filled with a filling or risk becoming more severely decayed or causing an infection. At Wolds Dental Studio we use white fillings as these blend in with the colour of the rest of your teeth, making them inconspicuous when you smile or open your mouth. Most white fillings can be treated on the same day as your dental-check up and it is a quick and painless procedure.
Dental crowns
If you have a damaged or fractured tooth, you may need a crown fitted to protect it from further damage or decay. A crown is designed to sit over the top of your damaged tooth to protect it. You may be fitted with a temporary crown whilst your dentist custom-makes your permanent crown.
Tooth extraction
Usually, a tooth will only be extracted as a last resort, for example if a tooth has become completely decayed or damaged and is perhaps affecting the health of adjacent teeth. Sometimes though, a tooth might be extracted as part of a planned procedure such as dental implants or orthodontics. The team at Wolds Dental Studio will extract your tooth quickly and gently using a local anaesthetic to numb the area of your mouth so that you don’t feel anything.
Root canal
If the inside of your tooth becomes infected, you will need root canal treatment which removes the infection and restores the tooth. You may know that you need root canal treatment from experiencing pain, swelling or inflammation in the gums. Images taken from our CBCT (Cone Beam CT) scan will confirm if the infection is at the centre of your tooth and whether root canal is necessary.
Dental hygienist
Dental hygienists work with dentists to give you optimum oral health. Hygienists focus on preventing and treating gum disease which is the biggest reason for tooth loss.

Frequently Asked Questions about General Dentistry
Why are my gums bleeding?
Gums bleed when they are irritated or inflamed. This could be due to a build-up of plaque on teeth known as gingivitis and if this is not treated will lead to a more severe form of gum disease known as periodontitis. We would recommend still cleaning your teeth and if after a few days, your gums are still bleeding to book an appointment with your dentist at the surgery in Market Rasen.
My teeth feel fine, why do I need to see the dentist?
Your teeth may feel fine, but there could be problems that you don’t know about. You should keep your general dentist appointments so that we can check your oral health and ensure that everything is as it should be.
At what age should I start taking my child to see the dentist?
We recommend that you should bring your child to visit the dentist as soon as they have cut their first tooth. They should have seen a dentist by the time they are 1 years old.
